Umuaka Welfare and Development Association UK engages in series of projects aimed towards the development of our people and our home town Akahland. We do organise cultural events which we use to display our cultural heritage to the people in UK and also our children in diaspora who may not have the opportunity to experience such cultural event in Akahland. Educational projects are also being organised to empower our brothers and sisters here in the UK so that they will be able to reach their full potentials. Fund-raising events are often organized by the organization to raise funds that are channeled to one or more development or poverty eradication scheme in Akahland. Here under are some of the project executed the organization.
Convention of Hope 2005:
This is a fund raising and culture display project organized by Umuaka Welfare and Development Association UK to raise fund for the improvement of primary schools in Akahland. The convention was a success as it objectives were met. Here is an excerpt from the welcome speech presented by the then Chairman of the Organization, Eng. Austin Okoro.
" Now is a greater time for Umuaka people in joining hands to build this colossal bridge that previously seems utopian. Our renaissance is long term and its purpose is to bring umuaka in to the map of the international community with the idea of sharing our culture, heritage and common wealth. It is based on this vision of purpose that this convention is declared a fund raising event to help our community deprived primary school children their basic infrastructural facilities for their schooling. As no man can be an Island so have we called our friends and others for their financial support towards our mission. In recognition of our sacred culture, we are able to introduce to you our Oghu and Ogbala cultural dance. It is part of our original cultural dance. It is a reverence for our heritage and a celebration of the blessing it ushers that makes it unique. Those blessings which are enjoyed during this festival are love, peace, patience, gentleness, self control and in all unity. This was passed to us from our ancestors and from us our children will benefit from this rich culture."
