As early as in the 1940's, the people of Akahland had already realized the importance of postal services, notwithstanding the low level of literacy in the then Akah community. At that time, the establishment of a Post Office was a burning need in the heart of most Akah people. They understood post office as a facility for the posting, receipt, sortation, handling, transmission or delivery of mail which consequently facilitates their communication with sons and daughters who lives in distant locations.

However, in the 40's, School Children traveled every week to Orlu on foot (approximately 50km) to collect mails belonging to Akah people. Those who were assigned to do this voluntary service considered themselves as privileged pupils in the community.

In 1951, a postal agency was commissioned and established in Umuaka. located along the junction of A Line and Orlu-Owerri road. It was the first Governmental establishment in Umuaka beside the missionary schools and churches. The postal agency was managed by late Mr Cornelius Ibe, who was later assisted by an Achara man (name unknown). Mr Cornelius Ibe was in charge of the distribution of the mails to all akah people. This made him to be a popular person in Akahland in those days. He was widely known as Postmaster. This functional name over shadowed his real name. He worked there till his retirement. late Mr Hycent Amuzie also worked at the postal agency for some time. He later opened his private postal agency at Amakor which also rendered tremendous service to the people of Akah.

In 1982, the postal agency was commissioned to a federal Post Office and was relocated to the current build along Orlu Owerri road (pictured above). This commissioning to post office expanded the services she renders to the people of Akahland, from mails to financial and other business services.
