The need for National Electric Power supply in Akahland has been a long time quest. Akah people understood the relationship between electricity and community development. The availability of electricity in a community facilitates the establishment of various types of business ventures and improvement of livelihood.
However, the inability of Akahland to obtain electricity in the early 1980's hindered the community many opportunities that could have move them ahead than were they are today. Though the cause was attributed to various corrupt Nigeria regimes that fails to fulfil their promises to the people of Umuaka.
In 1996, Akahland got their power supply from NEPA (National Electric Power Authority). Power cable line were connected to two major roads of the community; that is, along Orlu-Owerri road and Uba-Ugbele road. The connection of power line to the rest part of the community were at the expense of the people of Akahland. It took almost another ten years before 60% of the Akah community were able to be connected to the electric power supply. The majority of Akah people encored heavy financial contribution before they were able to be connected to the power supply.
Since the acquisition of this NEPA electric supply in Akahland, the community has become more lively and vibrant. Various businesses has been established in the community. Besides, there has been reports of frequent blackout, although this is not a strange phenomenon in NEPA power supply.
